More Active Chldren Fall Asleep Faster
Difficulty falling asleep (prolonged sleep latency) is a frequently reported problem in school-aged children. A new study shows that more active kids fall asleep faster, and time spent in sedentary activities increases sleep latency. This study, from Australia and New Zealand, was reported in the journal Archives of Disease in Childhood in the July 2009 issue.
Conclusions: These findings emphasize the importance of physical activity for children, not only for fitness, cardiovascular health and weight control, but also for promoting good sleep.
